AKPATA's LETTER TO OLANIPEKUN, SAN: BODY OF BENCHERS (BOB) SHOULD KNOW YOUNG LAWYERS ARE WATCHING ~Meti M. Ukpeh, Esq., fumes

FLASHBACK: AKPATA's LETTER TO OLANIPEKUN, SAN: BODY OF BENCHERS (BOB) SHOULD KNOW YOUNG LAWYERS ARE WATCHING
~Meti M. Ukpeh, Esq., fumes

May I start this way:

Maximum truth has been told in Bars with a glass of whisky in hand
&
Maximum lies have been told in courts with holy book in hand

In soothe, it is uncanny and apparently haggard, that the media lately, has ululatingly dragged out the nobility of our legal profession to public harangue owing to the letter of the NBA President to the chairman of the BOB, Chief Whole Olanipekun, SAN, to honourably excuse himself from the chairmanship of the revered BoB, citing his involvement in unethical conduct.

The sanity and sanctity of our profession is evidently challenged, petrified, and threatened by this apocalyptic and incongruous display of carte blanche, hence the age-long cordial relationship of the BOB and the NBA is left crumbling and dangling with near-hopeless hope of redemption.

Just a couple of days ago, over four thousand young wigs were called to Bar. Most of them are aware of this imbroglio rocking the BOB, even the existing young lawyers are keenly watching if the ethical sanity and sanctity of the profession would be given its pride of place by even those these young ones see as idols, mentors and revered seniors; hence, one would ordinary ask: would the hopes of these young lads be dashed to the walls of ineptitude, pride and insensitivity by even ministers and preachers of the ethics of the profession? can the BOB rightly say that it doesn't influence the LPDC?  Why did the former chairman quit LPDC?  Were the contents of the letter of AKPATA and the revealed letter of partners of Chief Olanipekun, SAN,  all a bluff without substance?  Who is deceiving who?  What or who are we shielding from sanctions ? What confidence can the BOB comfortably guarantee Nigerian lawyers?  Is BOB setting a bad precedence?  What happens when a young lawyer commits a misconduct and cites this precedence?, et Al.

I Dare to ask: if the foundation is broken, what can the righteous do?  I verily and unreservedly call on the BOB to save the face of the body, its sanctity, and the face of our profession no matter who the hammer falls. BOB cannot be cahoots with LPDC in carte Blanche. It is evidently hara-kiri to our profession.

May such a day never come that a young lawyer will perpetrate this consternation, but cite this epoch-making dilemma. It is not yet a cul-de-sac for BOB, LPDC and the NBA to save the face of our profession SAVE we hesitate to tell the bitter truth to power that be.
