CONGRATULATIONS POURED IN FOR DESMOMD YAMAH, A FORMER ABUJA BAR CHAIRMAN AND CANDIDATE FOR GENERAL SECRETARY, NBA, AS HE CEMENTS HIS PLACE ON THE ECNBA FINAL LIST

It is evenly heartwarming that the Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association, ECNBA, on the 7th June, 2022, has published the full list of properly nominated candidates for the Association’s forthcoming National elections. 

 In a related development, at the ongoing Law week(Unity Bar) in Abuja,  lawyers thronged in and confronted Mr. Yamah with congratulatory remarks for making the final list of ECNBA published lately. 

On his part, Mr. Yamah noted thus: "Yes, l saw the list. My name is there. I am immensely and unreservedly grateful to God Almighty for His grace. I am also grateful to friends of Yamah for believing in the project; I am also grateful to our most cherished profession and our noble Association, NBA. The elections hold in July, till then l must commend and wholeheartedly respect the ECNBA and its guidelines which are for the smooth running of the electoral processes. Thank you."

[Uyo-based Human Rights Lawyer ] In Nigeria, beyond the Superior Courts of record recognized by the Constitution of Nigeria(as amended), there exist several other layers of courts, most of which exist by dint of the laws of the various states. In this class are the Customary Courts, Magistrates Courts, the Area Courts, among others.  In Akwa Ibom State, the Customary Courts occupy the immediate layer after the Customary Court of Appeal (though yet to be established), which explains why appeals from the Customary Courts go to the High Courts(S.67, CCL,2022).The Customary Court is the closest court to the grassroots(S.1, 14, and 18, CCL.) The Customary Courts in the state handle not less than 70 percent of the cases adjudicated upon in the State.
