Meti M. Ukpeh,Esq., Uyo-based Human Rights Lawyer, Pledges Free Legal Services for Legitimate Protesters

In his words to SupremeLaw News, he said thus:
“It is no longer news that youths of this country have decided to take to the streets to demonstrate their displeasure in the frailty state of the country—hike in prices of commodities, fuel, and general cost of living starting on the 1st August, 2024., tagged #EndBadGovernance
Whereas, I would have reservations as to the faceless fronts of the protest--no identifiable spearheaders which could puncture and pose some punctuations on the real essence of the protest, yet every Nigerian citizen has the right to demonstrate his concerns in the apparent face of sheer economic challenges like this, but such protest must be peaceful and evidently within the bounds of the law.
Nigerian government must protect these protesters through the apparatuses of the police and other security agencies against highjackers, miscreants, and self-imposed mischief makers who would stop at nothing to perpetuate vices through the protest.
Consequently, I pledge to represent and make available free legal services to legitimate protesters in Akwa Ibom State. I also use this medium to call on other legal practitioners to also do same. By our calling, a lawyer owes duty to his client, the court and also to the society, and we cannot hide while the society burns.
Consequently, legitimate protesters who may encounter breach of human rights can approach me through this email contact: monelizattorneys@gmail.com”
